Road Asset Information Technician

Are you passionate about infrastructure data and want to play a vital role in supporting the future of Waimate's roading network?
Due to an internal promotion, we have an exciting opportunity for a Road Asset Information Technician to join our Roading team at Waimate District Council. In this role, you'll help keep our road asset data accurate and up to date by operating and maintaining our road asset management system (formerly known as RAMM). This information is critical for planning, investment, and reporting on our district's roading network.
If you have an interest in roading and data, and you're keen to learn, we'll provide full training and support to help you succeed.
What you'll be doing:
- Collecting, validating, and inputting road asset data (pavement, drainage, signs) into AWM
- Overseeing the vehicle counting programme and implementing REG Traffic Count Estimation
- Generating reports and analysing data to support forward works programmes and asset management plans
- Keeping the asset database accurate and compliant with NZTA and REG standards
- Conducting inspections and field surveys to validate road data
- Providing technical support and training for AWM users
- Identifying opportunities to improve asset data processes

What You'll bring:
- Full NZ driver licence
- Experience using RAMM or similar asset management systems
- Strong attention to detail, with analytical and problem-solving skills
- A good grasp of road infrastructure and asset data
- Clear communication skills — especially when talking tech to non-tech folks
- Confidence with Excel, and ideally some knowledge of GIS or spatial data
