Event Centre Supervisor - 40 hours per week
Waimate District Council
Waimate District Council is on the lookout for an enthusiastic and community-minded Event Centre Supervisor to help bring our Event Centre to life.
Our community sports and events facility is home to rock climbing, school sports, and other community activities - and we're looking for someone who's ready to build on that foundation. You'll work closely with our existing team and play a hands-on role in community sports and event delivery, customer experience, and community engagement. This is the perfect opportunity for someone with a sporting background and some events experience, who enjoys variety and wants to make a visible difference in a small but vibrant district.
What you'll do:
- In conjunction with the other Event Centre Supervisor, oversee the day-to-day operations of the Event Centre and ensure it runs safely, smoothly, and professionally.
- Be a trusted face of the Event Centre - liaise with hirers, community groups, schools, and sporting organisations.
- Lead on-site supervision of events, including health and safety, customer support, and security.
- Keep the building and equipment well maintained and ready for use - including climbing wall, courts, and hire rooms.
- Assist with reception duties and general administration when required.
- Develop new programmes and community activities to increase usage and engagement.
- Maintain strong relationships with our leaseholders, suppliers, and Council colleagues.
About you:
- Knowledge and passion for sport and recreation
- Previous experience in supervision or facility coordination
- Confident working with the public and managing bookings/events
- Physically fit - able to assist with equipment and setup
- Strong communicator with a proactive, can-do attitude
- Computer savvy and organised
- Holds a full Class 1 New Zealand driver licence
- The icing on the cake would be qualifications or experience in sports, recreation, or event management
- Local government or facility management experience would be a bonus but not essential
- High level of presentation and professionalism
Hours:
This 40 hour per week role works on a shared fortnightly roster with another Event Centre Supervisor. You'll need to be available for some evenings, weekends, (and public holidays as needed). Flexibility is key - no two weeks are the same!
Perks:
- Birthday leave, upfront sick leave, and workplace wellbeing support
- Up to 5% employer contribution towards KiwiSaver/Super Easy superannuation scheme
