ANIMAL CONTROL, NOISE CONTROL AND SECURITY

Waimate District Council is looking for a calm, capable, and community-focused After Hours Officer to be our go-to responder outside regular business hours.

This unique role runs on a one-week-on, two-weeks-off roster, perfect if you're after work-life balance or already juggling other commitments. During your on-call week, you'll do a quick daily security check, then stay on standby for any call-outs that come through. You'll be working:

  • Weekdays: from 4pm to 8am the next morning
  • Weekends: from 4pm Friday through to 8am Monday

You'll receive a retainer, plus additional pay for call-outs and hours worked.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Is confident and experienced when it comes to handling animals
  • Can stay calm and helpful when dealing with the public
  • Has a full, clean driver's licence (and keeps it that way)
  • Is organised, responsive, and a great communicator
  • Can follow procedures and think on their feet
  • Has the physical ability to manage active, hands-on tasks

Bonus points if you've worked in animal control, noise control, or security before.

As with all roles at Council, this position requires a Police Record check, and you'll need to have the right to live and work in New Zealand.

If you're the kind of person who enjoys variety, takes pride in keeping your community safe, and is ready to answer the call (literally) we'd love to hear from you.
